The degree of contempt with which the Bush Administration regards the American public was recently summed up by VP Dick Cheney. When told that two-thirds of the American public feels the Iraq invasion was not worth it, he replied: “So?”
The disdain and arrogance of his reply perfectly summarize the mindset of the Bush presidency. Public opinion is a mere bagatelle, something to be ignored and disregarded - an imperial decree will decide for the masses.
America was founded on precisely the antithesis of this view.
