The Poet Laureate of the Tractor Pull Set

Those wishing to understand the thinking [sic] of the extreme Right in this country need look no further than to its modern-day Savonarola: Rush Limbaugh.

Broadcasting to his “Ditto Head” acolytes, he damned John McCain for having sinned by reaching across the aisle in the Senate. In Limbaugh’s universe, any effort at reconciliation - or even dialogue - is viewed as antithetical to core GOP ‘principles’. It was time, he thundered, for Mc Cain to “learn the right lesson.” Thus spake the poet laureate of the tractor-pull set.

Obeying the directives of the Radical Right, things are only to be viewed as ‘us vs. them’, ‘black vs. white’, ‘with us or against us’. Those who stray are termed ‘un-American’, ‘unpatriotic’, ‘the enemy within’ or the newly-minted ‘coddling the terrorists’.

Limbaugh and his ovine disciples live in a blinkered world that knows no view other than their own. Convinced of their correctness, any alternate opinion is wrong and threatening. Theirs is an anti-intellectual, submissive way of coping with life. In this inbred, closed system that reinforces itself through endless repetition and self-righteousness, facts are unnecessary and, indeed, are to be avoided at all cost.

“The truth is the greatest enemy of the State,” Joseph Goebbels
